The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States alongside the European Union’s top diplomat, have pledged readiness to take necessary measures to protect global energy supplies, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement from the summit in La Malbaie, the ministers emphasized the importance of safeguarding maritime routes, including the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key chokepoint for the world’s oil shipments.
“We express support to our partners in the region in the face of the unjustifiable attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies,” the statement said. The ministers also condemned attacks targeting civilians and energy infrastructure, calling them “reckless” and “unjustifiable.”
The G7’s commitment comes as global energy markets face disruptions due to ongoing hostilities, highlighting the critical need for stable supply lines and regional security to prevent further economic fallout.
