Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourta following a recent trip abroad, the purpose and destination of which were not officially disclosed.

The Governor made his first public appearance on Sunday when he attended a church service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Also present at the service were the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, and other senior officials of the Rivers State Government.

The appearance marked the first time Governor Fubara and his deputy were seen in public since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated fresh impeachment proceedings against him last Thursday.

The latest move represents the third attempt to remove the governor from office in less than three years.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service was held in honour of Nigerian servicemen and women who lost their lives in the defence of the country’s unity and sovereignty.

The ceremony featured prayers for the repose of fallen heroes and for the safety of personnel currently serving in the armed forces.

Despite the renewed political tension in the state, Governor Fubara and his administration have remained silent on the allegations of gross misconduct levelled against them by the House of Assembly.

Sources had earlier disclosed that the Governor travelled out of the country on Thursday aboard a private jet, reportedly with plans to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in France, amid the escalating impeachment crisis in the state.

Neither the Presidency nor the Rivers State Government has officially confirmed details of the reported meeting as of the time of filing this report.
