The Peoples Democratic Party PDP is once again in the spotlight as two separate emergency meeting notices issued by different power blocs within the party surfaced on Monday, raising fresh concerns about internal cohesion and leadership clarity. Both meetings are scheduled for Tuesday November 18 2025 at the party’s National Secretariat Wadata Plaza Abuja, but the conflicting summonses have created confusion among members and renewed fears of factional activity within the party.
NWC Calls Stakeholders Meeting
The first announcement came from the National Working Committee NWC under the chairmanship of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN. The statement, signed by the National Publicity Secretary Hon Ini Ememobong Essien, invited serving and former governors, National Assembly members, Board of Trustees BOT members, state chairmen, ex officio members and other major stakeholders to an Emergency Stakeholders Meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8 00 a m and is expected to review the just concluded National Convention and discuss key issues affecting the party. Attendees were informed that deliberations would continue in smaller sessions throughout the day.
Circulated widely across PDP communication channels early Monday morning, the notice signaled a strong push by the Turaki led NWC to consolidate its influence and drive post convention conversations.
NEC and BOT Issue Separate Invitation
Shortly after the first notice gained traction, a second announcement emerged, this time issued by the National Secretary Senator Samuel N Anyanwu. The notice invited members to an Emergency 103rd National Executive Committee NEC and Board of Trustees BOT meeting.
The schedule outlined two separate sessions
BOT at 11 00 a m
NEC at 2 00 p m
Unlike the first notice, this invitation made no reference to the NWC, a development that has heightened speculation of power plays within the party. The statement stressed that crucial matters would be discussed and addressed.
The timing and structure of the second notice have raised eyebrows, with many observers noting that it appears to function independently of the NWC’s stakeholders engagement.
Widening Reactions Within the Party
The parallel notices have sparked a wave of reactions across various levels of the party.
Confusion Among Members
Some stakeholders say they are unsure which of the two meetings carries the greater legitimacy. A former state chairman who spoke with RISMADAR Voice said
“This is how factions start. One group calls a meeting, another group calls a separate one. The party needs clarity, not competing invitations.”
Speculation of Emerging Factions
Political observers note that the two notices may reflect deeper alignment struggles between the NWC and other influential blocs within the NEC and BOT. A senior NEC member remarked
“This is not an ordinary communication issue. It shows that not all organs are moving in one direction. There are interests trying to assert control.”
Concerns About 2027 Readiness
Grassroots members and analysts fear that repeated internal cracks could weaken the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“When you see two parallel notices, something is happening beneath the surface,” a youth leader from North Central stated.
“The party needs unity, not parallel structures.”
Calls for Harmonisation
Some party elders have urged key leaders to urgently address the communication issues, warning that the situation could escalate if not resolved swiftly.

What May Be Driving the Tension?
Although the exact reasons for the two emergency meetings remain unclear, party insiders point to several ongoing issues
Aftermath of the National Convention
Leadership alignment contests
Reorganisation of NEC and NWC structures
Strategic repositioning ahead of the 2027 elections
Internal debates over disciplinary matters and membership disputes
The dual notices are now viewed as a visible sign of unresolved tensions that have simmered quietly within the party for months.
Conclusively, as the PDP prepares for the meetings at Wadata Plaza, all eyes are on how the two gatherings will unfold and whether they will unite the party or deepen the divisions that appear to be taking shape.
The decisions made on Tuesday could significantly influence the future direction of Nigerias oldest opposition party.
