French President, Emmanuel Macron has said France is ready to facilitate peace talks between Lebanon and Israel, as Israel continues airstrikes in southern Lebanon. Macron noted that Lebanese leaders are willing to engage in direct talks, marking a major shift in the country’s approach toward Israel.

Since the escalation, more than 800,000 people have been displaced, and over 800 deaths have been reported. Israeli forces have issued forced evacuation orders for areas south of the Litani River, while Hezbollah continues to fire rockets in retaliation.

Macron said France could host the discussions in Paris, urging both sides to seize the opportunity for a ceasefire. Reports suggest that Lebanese authorities have agreed to a proposal that would see their army deployed south of the Litani River, while Israel would withdraw from captured territories.

A Hezbollah source told Al Jazeera that the group has not yet received an official offer for negotiations. On the ground, Israel maintains air superiority and continues to bomb targets across Lebanon, while Hezbollah claims to be repelling advances in the south.

The humanitarian situation remains critical, with thousands struggling to find shelter and aid agencies warning of worsening conditions. Analysts say neither Israel nor Hezbollah is currently in a position to impose conditions, making the outcome of potential talks uncertain.
