The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Mustapha, GSS, has paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the Governor’s Office in Alausa, Lagos, following his assumption of office as the 46th FOC Western Naval Command in October 2025.
The visit, which took place on Monday, January 19, 2026, was aimed at formally introducing the new Command Chief and strengthening cooperation between the Nigerian Navy and the Lagos State Government in the area of maritime and inland waterway security.
Rear Admiral Mustapha commended the Lagos State Government for its consistent support to the security sector, noting that such collaboration has contributed to sustained peace and stability in the state. He assured that the Western Naval Command will continue regular patrols of coastal and inland waterways, while adopting a technology driven strategy focused on detection, deterrence, disruption, and prevention of criminal activities.
He further stated that the Command will deepen partnership with the state to secure critical waterways and identified choke points in line with the Blue Economy agenda of both the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government. The Rear Admiral also conveyed the goodwill message of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), to the Governor.
In his response, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised the Nigerian Navy for its sustained efforts in safeguarding Lagos maritime routes, particularly acknowledging the role of NNS BEECROFT and the importance of inter agency cooperation. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continued collaboration with the Western Naval Command to further enhance security and support economic activities across Lagos waterways.
