At least five people were killed, three others injured after a bombing struck a military convoy linked to Yemen’s Saudi backed government in the southern city of Aden, according to Yemeni authorities.

The attack targeted a convoy transporting Hamdi Shukri, a senior commander of the Giants Brigades, a pro government armed group operating under the country’s Presidential Leadership Council. The Council described the bombing as a deliberate attempt to disrupt ongoing security efforts.

In a statement carried by state media, the council said the incident was aimed at destabilising areas where progress had recently been made with the support of Saudi Arabia. Authorities pledged to pursue those responsible and dismantle networks linked to the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility, officials did not immediately attribute the bombing to any particular organization.

Security officials said a roadside car bomb exploded in the Ja’awla area of northern Aden as the convoy passed. Shukri survived the blast but suffered shrapnel injuries to his leg, according to medical sources.

The Yemeni
government urged political groups, armed factions to set aside differences, unite against what it described as acts of terrorism threatening state institutions.

The United States embassy in Yemen also condemned the incident, calling it an unprovoked assault on a government affiliated military convoy.

Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since 2014, when Houthi forces seized the capital, Sanaa, forcing the internationally recognised government to relocate. The war has drawn in regional powers, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and has triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Recent months have also seen rising tensions between factions aligned with the Saudi backed government and the UAE supported Southern Transitional Council, further complicating efforts to stabilize the country.
