In a move already stirring intense conversations across security circles and social media, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Area Superintendent of Police, ASP Eno Nkereuwem Ikoedem, as the new Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command – the first woman ever to hold the position.
The announcement, made in a statement on Monday by the Command’s Admin Officer, ASP Emmanuel Nyokema, has been described as a significant shift in a command long dominated by male leadership voices.
But beyond breaking a decades-long gender barrier, ASP Ikoedem’s appointment is drawing attention for another reason: her intimidating résumé, which includes some of the most gruelling combat, counterterrorism, forensic, and leadership trainings in the Nigerian Police ecosystem.
A native of Akwa Ibom State, Ikoedem holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, an academic trajectory analysts say could redefine the intellectual standards expected of Police Spokespersons, Nationwide.
Her professional journey paints the picture of an officer forged through some of the toughest terrains in Nigeria:

•Combat Operation & Counter-Terrorism Course, PMF Training School, Ende Hills, Nasarawa
•Citizenship & Leadership Training, Shere Hills, Jos
•Forensic Analysis & Basic Crime Scene Management, Wudil, Kano
•Basic Detective Course, also Wudil
These are not typical achievements for the average police image-maker and Nigerians are taking notice.
Before her unprecedented elevation, she served as Deputy PPRO to two successive spokespersons, earning a reputation for discipline, calm under pressure, and a rare ability to communicate with both tact and firmness.
Her appointment comes at a time when Edo State, gearing up for a heated election season and grappling with rising security concerns, needs a strong, credible, and trusted voice from the police.
Her predecessor, Moses Yamu, leaves behind a communication legacy she must now redefine or surpass.
