A massive fire outbreak occurred on Sunday morning at the Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Igbesa, Ogun State, spreading rapidly from an industrial facility to nearby residential areas and causing panic among residents.

Eyewitness videos showed thick black smoke billowing into the sky as intense flames engulfed factory buildings within the industrial park.

Emergency responders were seen battling the inferno amid chaotic scenes, while residents fled the area for safety.

As of press time, authorities had yet to confirm the cause of the fire, and no casualties or injuries had been officially reported.

However, residents said the incident started around dawn and was believed to have been triggered by a gas explosion at a foam-producing company located within the industrial zone.

The fire reportedly escalated quickly, destroying parts of the factory and spreading to several nearby homes before firefighters arrived.

Confirming the incident, the Director of the Ogun State Fire Service, Fatai Adefala, said emergency teams had been deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.

“The state firefighters’ teams from Agbara and Ota have been on the ground doing the needful for over three hours,” Adefala said in a brief telephone response.

Firefighting efforts were still ongoing as authorities worked to prevent further spread of the fire. Residents have been urged to remain calm, keep a safe distance from the affected area while emergency operations continue.
