Federal Character Commission (FCC) on Tuesday honoured its retired Director of General Services, Yusuf Maitam, during a plenary session at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The recognition marked the first time in the history of the Commission that a retiring staff member was celebrated at plenary.
The session featured a standing ovation led by the Executive Chairman, Honourable Commissioners, and the Commission’s Secretary in appreciation of Maitam’s years of service.
Presiding over the plenary, the Executive Chairman, Hulayat Omidiran, formally presented Maitam to the Commission and commended his consistent professionalism and dedication to duty.
“He is a stabilizing presence within the Commission’s administrative structure and a steadfast advocate of due process and accountability. Maitam demonstrated uncommon dedication to duty and remained resolute in upholding the highest standards of transparency and institutional integrity throughout his tenure,” she said.
Omidiran wished him a fulfilling retirement, noting that his legacy of integrity, diligence, and service excellence would remain a lasting reference within the Commission.
In separate remarks, Commissioners praised Maitam’s discipline, work ethic, and adherence to institutional procedures.
The Commissioner representing Lagos State, Abdul Wasiu K. Bawa, recalled working with him during the 4th Commission and described him as meticulous and dependable, particularly in his role as Secretary of the Committee on Verification.
Similarly, the Commissioner representing Kogi State, Idris Bello Eneye, described him as disciplined and loyal to constituted authority, while the Commissioner representing Yobe State, Jibril Maigari, highlighted his humility and dedication to service.
The Commissioner representing Bayelsa State, Tonye G. Okio, commended Maitam’s professionalism and compliance with regulatory frameworks, especially in procurement matters.
“Over the course of his career, Maitam served in several strategic capacities within the Commission, earning widespread respect for his discipline, administrative competence, and principled leadership. His tenure as Director of General Services was particularly noted for strengthening operational efficiency and reinforcing compliance with established procedures,” Okio said.
The plenary held in his honour signalled a departure from established practice, underscoring the Commission’s recognition of exemplary service and institutional commitment.
