The Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Kuje Area Council election, Abubakar Dambo, has explained that the delay in announcing the chairmanship results was due to challenges in two wards, Central and Kabi.

Speaking on Sunday, Dambo said that results from eight of the ten wards had already been collated, but a logistical error involving collation officers caused the postponement.

“We are waiting for the remaining two wards out of ten. The delay is because the collation officers went to the wrong place and had to return to the INEC office before heading back early this morning to complete the collation process. I am sure that by now they should be on their way back from Kabi ward,” he said.

Security was reportedly tightened around the INEC office in Kuje to prevent any breach of law and order as party agents, journalists, and security personnel awaited the formal declaration of the winner by the Returning Officer, Prof. Nkiruka Odoh.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission has concluded elections in other FCT area councils. Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner of the Bwari Area Council chairmanship after polling 18,466 votes.

In Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu of the APC emerged victorious with 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes cast.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mohammed Kasim, won the Gwagwalada Area Council election with 22,165 votes, defeating APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who scored 17,788 votes.

Similarly, Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the APC won the Abaji Area Council election with 15,536 votes, while the PDP candidate received 4,547 votes. In Kwali Area Council, the APC candidate, Nuhu Daniel, defeated PDP’s Haruna Pai with 17,032 votes to 8,575 votes.

Kuje remains the only outstanding council as collation continues, highlighting the meticulous process being followed by INEC to ensure accuracy and transparency in the FCT polls.
