The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested 20 suspects for alleged electoral offences during the just-concluded Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Area Council elections held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
According to the anti-graft agency, the suspects were apprehended across different area councils in the FCT for offences including vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of electoral officers.
The commission disclosed that a total of N17,218,700 was recovered from the suspects.
One of those arrested was reportedly found with N13,500,000 inside a vehicle parked near a polling unit in Kwali Area Council.
A breakdown of the arrests shows that two suspects were picked up in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali Area Council.
The EFCC stated that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process and warned that individuals involved in electoral malpractice will be brought to justice.
