Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peace, fiscal discipline, rural development, and inclusive growth as the state enters 2026; announcing the full implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and unveiling new agricultural, infrastructure, and social investment priorities.
In his New Year Address delivered on January 1, 2026, the Governor thanked Akwa Ibom people for their support over the past two and a half years, pledged to consolidate and expand the gains of his administration under the ARISE Agenda.
Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for the swift passage of the 2026 People’s Budget of Consolidation and Expansion, describing the collaboration between the executive and legislature as a reflection of the people’s mandate for effective governance.
He also extended New Year goodwill to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending the early gains of the President’s reforms and reaffirming Akwa Ibom’s support for the Renewed Hope Agenda. The Governor acknowledged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and past leaders of the state for their services, while thanking youths for their recent rally and endorsement of key political leaders ahead of 2027.
A major policy announcement in the address was the full commencement of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) with effect from January 1, 2026. Governor Eno warned that all Ministries, Departments, and
Agencies must comply, stressing that the era of MDAs generating and spending funds outside the TSA was over, with sanctions awaiting defaulters.
On infrastructure, the Governor disclosed that over 1,000 kilometres of roads have either been completed or are ongoing across the state, assuring that new projects scheduled for 2026 were drawn from community needs, articulated during town hall meetings across the ten federal constituencies. He added that contractors have returned to sites as work intensifies statewide.
In agriculture, Governor Eno announced the launch of a Tree Crop Revolution aimed at empowering farmers across all local government areas, creating generational wealth, strengthening rural economies, ensuring food security.
The Governor also highlighted progress in education and healthcare, noting that the construction of model primary schools and healthcare centres, the commissioning of Ukanafun General Hospital, and the commencement of work on the 350-bed Ibom International Hospital, alongside ongoing recruitment of healthcare workers.
Reaffirming his administration’s compassionate governance philosophy, Eno said more ARISE Compassionate Homes would be built beyond the 335 already delivered. He added that the state has so far paid ₦76.6 billion out of the ₦112 billion gratuity backlog inherited by his administration.
On tourism and economic diversification, the Governor listed several landmark projects scheduled for completion or commissioning in 2026, including the ARISE Palm Resort, Ibom International Convention Centre, Ibom Hotels, Uyo, ARISE Shopping City, and the rehabilitation of the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort.
Governor Eno also confirmed that international operations at the Victor Attah International Airport are expected to commence by April 2026, following its upgrade to international status approved by President Tinubu.
He added that the Ibom Deep Seaport project remains on course, with documentation and due process ongoing.
