ELSIE PETERS ASSUMES OFFICE AS AKWA IBOM HEAD OF CIVIL SERVICE

Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday witnessed a significant transition in its administrative leadership as Mrs. Elsie Anietie Peters officially assumed office as the new Head of Civil Service, following the retirement and formal handover by her predecessor, Elder Effiong Edem Essien.

Mrs. Peters was sworn in on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, by Governor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, during a ceremony at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.

Her assumption of office marks the beginning of a new phase for the State’s Civil Service, widely regarded as the engine room of government policy implementation and bureaucratic coordination.

During a brief handover ceremony at the Office of the Head of Civil Service, Mrs. Peters expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for the confidence reposed in her.

She pledged to reposition the Civil Service for enhanced productivity, professionalism, and efficiency, while assuring total commitment to advancing the administration’s ARISE Agenda.

The Head of Service attributed her rise to God’s grace and thanked Elder Essien for his mentorship and for ensuring a smooth, well-organized transition process.

Elder Essien, in his remarks, congratulated Mrs. Peters and offered prayers for her success.

“I warmly welcome you to your new office as I officially hand over today. I pray that your successes surpass mine,” he said.

The handover event was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary, Ms. Doris Ikpuho, alongside directors: Mr. Nkoyo Akai, Mrs. Gladys Phillip and Mrs. Victoria Nta, who expressed optimism about the new leadership.
