The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed a viral wanted notice circulating on social media that features popular Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus, describing the poster as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Thursday through its official social media platforms, the anti-graft agency clarified that the notice did not originate from the commission. The EFCC also marked the widely shared image as “FAKE NEWS,” warning those responsible for spreading the content to desist from circulating false information.
“Clout chaser, stop this now!” the commission wrote while debunking the claim.

The manipulated poster, which gained traction across several social media platforms, carried the EFCC logo, falsely claimed that the comedian was wanted for allegedly obtaining money under false pretences. It also listed a supposed address for Sabinus at 13/14 Ligali Ayomide Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
Further checks revealed that the image closely imitated the layout and style typically used by the EFCC when declaring suspects wanted, a factor that may have contributed to the confusion among members of the public.
The commission, however, did not disclose whether it had identified the person or group responsible for creating and circulating the doctored material.
Sabinus, who rose to fame through his comedy skits shared online, commands a large fan base both in Nigeria and internationally. As of the time this report was filed, the comedian had not publicly commented on the incident.

The EFCC has on several occasions warned the public against sharing unverified information online and has urged social media users to confirm claims through official channels before reposting them.
