The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a woman, Fatima Muhammed, over alleged mutilation of the Nigerian currency.
The arrest, which took place on Tuesday, April 7, 2025, followed a viral video on TikTok showing the suspect using a N500 note to clean mucus from her nose.
According to the Commission, operatives swung into action after the video surfaced online, tracing and apprehending the suspect within the Maiduguri metropolis.
Fatima Muhammed is currently in custody at the EFCC detention facility in Maiduguri as investigations continue.
The anti-graft agency stated that she will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
