Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals for allegedly mutilating Nigerian currency.
The suspects: Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad, and Bashir Musa, were apprehended after a video circulated on social media showed them using a ₦500 note to clean mucus from their noses.
Following the viral clip, the EFCC traced the suspects within the Maiduguri metropolis and took them into custody.
The trio is currently under investigation at the EFCC Maiduguri detention facility. The Commission has stated that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to enforcing the Naira Mutilation Act and ensuring the protection of Nigeria’s currency from illegal defacement.
