The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Army have renewed their commitment to work together in combating illegal mining and economic sabotage in Akwa Ibom State.

The Commander of the 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Uyo Military Cantonment, Brigadier General Nnabueze E. Okoloagu, commended the EFCC for its relentless efforts in tackling economic and financial crimes across the country. He noted that both institutions share a common responsibility in protecting Nigeria’s economic integrity and safeguarding natural resources from exploitation.

Brigadier General Okoloagu emphasized the importance of closer collaboration and intelligence sharing between the Army and the EFCC, especially in curbing illegal mining and unauthorized petroleum product dealings which, he said, pose a growing threat to national security and economic stability.

In his response, the Uyo Zonal Commander of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Oshodi, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to work closely with the Nigerian Army. He maintained that inter-agency cooperation remains vital to achieving lasting results in the fight against economic crimes.

According to him, “The fight against illegal mining and illegal petroleum product dealings cannot be won in isolation. We must work together, share intelligence, and support each other operationally to protect our nation’s resources.”

Both agencies agreed to strengthen operational collaboration, enhance intelligence exchange, and carry out joint enforcement operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks involved in illegal mining and resource theft.

They expressed optimism that the renewed synergy will help secure Nigeria’s economic assets and contribute to sustainable national development.
