Edo State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of the wife of Ubani Okuo, Chairman of the Youth Group of Igarra Community, headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer stated that Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika has directed Divisional Police Officers in the area to work collaboratively to ensure the safe rescue of the victim.

According to a community source, Okuo’s wife was abducted on Tuesday night while returning home from her shop in Igarra.

In response, the community has imposed a curfew from 9p.m. to 6a.m., and restricted night burial dances to between 4p.m. and 6p.m.

The curfew was announced by the paramount ruler of the Igarra/Akuku Clan, Oba Adeche Saiki, and implemented jointly with the local government chairman and police authorities.

Oba Saiki said, “It is true. We suspect that these bad elements now live among us and may even mingle with our people before carrying out their acts at night.

The curfew is expected to be enforced across the entire local government area.”

The development follows a separate incident in which seven kidnapped indigenes of Imoga Community in Akoko-Edo were released on Monday evening after the payment of an undisclosed ransom.

Bode Ekundayo, coordinator of the Movement for the Advancement of Akoko Edo People, confirmed that the victims had been reunited with their families.
