Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Nafisa Usman, for allegedly supplying ammunition to bandits operating in parts of northern Nigeria.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended at a motor park in Kano, where she was found in possession of 200 rounds of ammunition reportedly being transported from Lafia in Nasarawa State to Kankara in Katsina State.
The arrest followed intelligence reports tracking her movements and alleged involvement in arms trafficking.
According to the sources, the suspect, a native of Sango village in Kankara Local Government Area, was intercepted before completing the delivery, which was allegedly meant for criminal groups operating in the Kankara forest.
During interrogation, Usman reportedly admitted to being involved in the illegal trade for about two months. She allegedly revealed that the ammunition was supplied to her by an individual identified as “Teso,” who she claimed works in collaboration with a military operative based in Lafia.
The suspect also confessed to facilitating transactions worth over ₦5 million through the Unguwa Uku motor park in Kano for onward delivery to Katsina State.
Further disclosures linked the supplies to a bandit leader identified as Mallam Haruna, as well as other individuals known as Buba and Abu, said to be active within the same forest region.
Usman reportedly stated that she was introduced into the network by a livestock trader based in Kano.
Security sources said the operation highlights ongoing efforts by the DSS to dismantle criminal networks, disrupt illegal arms supply chains, and enhance national security.
