The Nigeria Police Force has a new Acting Inspector-General of Police, with Ag. IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu assuming office as the 23rd indigenous head of the Force on 25th February 2026.
He succeeds IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun (rtd) who served as the 22nd indigenous Inspector-General from 19th June 2023 to 24th February 2026.
Born on 13th April 1966 in Lagos Island, Lagos State, Disu brings over three decades of operational, investigative, intelligence, and administrative experience to the role.
He joined the Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 18th May 1992. Before his appointment, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
His previous postings include Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos (2015–2021), Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and FCT Police Command, Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Force Headquarters Abuja, and leadership roles in the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Special Anti-Robbery Squad, and Anti-Kidnapping Units across multiple states.
Disu also led Nigeria’s first police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan in 2005.
Disu holds multiple academic qualifications, including MSC Entrepreneurship (NOUN, 2023), MSC Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology (LASU, 2022), and MSC Public Administration (Adekunle Ajasin University, 2010), among others.
He is a member of professional associations such as the International Academy of Forensics, National Association of Investigative Specialists (USA), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and International Association of Chiefs of Police.
He is also a decorated martial artist, holding a third black belt in Judo, and has won multiple medals, including a silver at the 2022 US Open Judo Championships.
In taking office, Disu pledged to consolidate ongoing reforms, enhance internal security, strengthen community partnerships, and advance the Force’s mandate of protecting lives and property in line with global best practices.
The Nigeria Police Force also expressed appreciation to IGP Egbetokun for his contributions to the modernization and strengthening of the Force.
The Force called on the public to continue supporting the new leadership as it seeks to deepen professionalism, discipline, and service delivery across the country.
