Clashes have lintensified in Aleppo as Syrian government forces and the US-backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fight over key districts.

State media reports at least four people have died, including three civilians and one Syrian soldier, with at least 15 others wounded, including children and employees of the Aleppo Agriculture Directorate.

Heavy shelling and drone strikes have targeted residential areas in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah, prompting residents to flee in panic.

The Syrian Defence Ministry says its forces are responding to SDF attacks, while the SDF denies responsibility for civilian casualties, blaming government-linked forces, instead.

The violence comes amid stalled talks to integrate the SDF into the Syrian army, despite an agreement signed in March 2025.

Government officials warn that failure to resolve tensions threatens Aleppo’s stability, economic recovery, and investment, as the city remains Syria’s industrial hub. Security forces are evacuating civilians and attempting to secure affected neighbourhoods.

The situation underscores the fragility of ceasefire agreements and ongoing challenges in Syria’s efforts to unify armed groups under government control.
