The Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday approved the activation of the Lagos Free Zone Green Channel, giving businesses a smooth, fast corridor for moving cargo straight from Lekki Deep Sea Port to the Lagos Free Zone.
The approval makes Lagos Free Zone the first and only zone in Nigeria to operate a sanctioned green channel, aligning with global port-to-zone logistics models seen in Asia and the Middle East.
By cutting out traditional bottlenecks, the Green Channel speeds up the “port-to-factory” flow, reducing delays, demurrage charges, and truck waiting times. Cargo is protected by 24/7 CCTV, telemetry, and tamper-proof digital logs, boosting supply chain security and investor confidence.
Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, said the move strengthens trade modernization and investor assurance in Nigeria’s Special Economic Zones.
Lagos Free Zone MD/CEO, Mrs Adesuwa Ladoja, said the channel removes the “last mile” uncertainty and positions the zone as a strategic hub for manufacturing and West African distribution.
Promoted by Singapore-based Tolaram, Lagos Free Zone is the first private deep-sea port-based free trade zone in Nigeria. The 860-hectare zone is integrated with the 90-hectare Lekki Deep Sea Port, offering businesses easier access to both regional and international markets.
With this development, Lagos Free Zone is set to become Nigeria’s go-to gateway for rapid, secure, and investor-friendly cargo movement.
