National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), sitting in Abuja, has ordered workers under the Joint Union Action Committee to suspend their ongoing strike following an interlocutory injunction filed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration.

The claimants had approached the court in suit number NICN/ABJ/17/2026, seeking to restrain the Chairman and Secretary of the Joint Union Action Committee, Rifkatu Iortyer and Abdullahi Umar Saleh, from embarking on any industrial action, picketing, or lockout.

Delivering his ruling on Tuesday, Justice E.D. Subilim noted that while the dispute amounted to a trade dispute, met legal conditions, the defendants’ right to strike was not absolute.

He ruled that once a dispute is referred to the National Industrial Court, workers are prohibited from participating in a strike, any ongoing industrial action must cease, pending determination of the case.

Justice Subilim stated:
“An order of interlocutory injunction is hereby granted, restraining the defendants and their representatives from further embarking on any industrial action against the claimants. The order shall remain in force pending the determination of this suit.”

The court adjourned the matter to March 23, 2026, for the hearing of the substantive suit.
