Lagos State High Court has convicted a Lagos-based firm, AAC Consulting Limited, for stealing over ₦30.5 million belonging to contract staff of Chevron Nigeria Limited.
The conviction was handed down on Friday, January 23, 2026, by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.
AAC Consulting Limited was arraigned by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on January 12, 2026, on an amended one-count charge of stealing, contrary to Section 285(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 44, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The firm and its Managing Director, Anthony Adeoye, were initially arraigned on June 5, 2023, on a 50-count charge bordering on stealing and issuance of dud cheques.
They pleaded not guilty at the commencement of trial, leading to a full hearing.
During the trial, prosecuting counsel I.O. Daramola called two witnesses and tendered several documents, all of which were admitted in evidence by the court.
However, after the defendants refunded the full sum of ₦30,564,635.81 to the affected Chevron contract staff in December 2023, they changed their plea to guilty. The EFCC subsequently amended the charge, leaving AAC Consulting Limited to face a single count of stealing.
The amended charge stated that the company, on or about April 27, 2013, dishonestly converted the sum of ₦30,564,635.81 belonging to Chevron Nigeria Limited’s contract staff to its own use.
After reviewing the plea and evidence, Justice Oshodi found the company guilty and convicted it accordingly.
The court ordered AAC Consulting Limited to pay a fine of ₦5 million within 14 days, warning that failure to comply would result in the winding up of the company.
