The Commander, Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Major General A.G.L. Haruna, on 23 February 2026 inaugurated Batch 2 troops of the 2026 Pre-Deployment Training (PDT) at the Kontagora Military Cantonment.

In his inaugural address, the Commander stated that the four-week training programme will focus on special warfare skills, including battle drills, survival training, ground sign awareness, mountain warfare, convoy drills, marksmanship, base camp security, and counter-ambush drills, among others.

Major General Haruna emphasized that the best form of welfare for troops is first-class training. He noted that the training at NATRAC forms part of deliberate efforts to enhance the troops’ professional capacity in line with the Command Philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, which is:

“To advance the transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.”

He further stated that continuous training and retraining ensure that the Nigerian Army remains prepared and readily available to address contemporary security challenges effectively.

The Commander disclosed that the Centre has made adequate arrangements, including the provision of necessary infrastructure and a well-structured training programme, to guarantee a robust training experience. He, however, warned that indiscipline would not be tolerated and that defaulters would be appropriately sanctioned. He also admonished the troops to ensure proper maintenance of all resources and facilities placed at their disposal.

Major General Haruna expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, for his continued support and strategic guidance to the Centre. He also commended the Principal Staff Officers, instructors, and other members of the NATRAC family for their dedication and commitment to the trainees’ welfare.

Highlights of the ceremony included three hearty cheers and group photographs, marking the conclusion of the event.
