China on Monday called for an immediate ceasefire and renewed diplomatic engagement as the escalating conflict in the Middle East entered its third day.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stressed the urgency of halting military actions to prevent further instability in the region.

“The most urgent task is a cessation of military operations and preventing a spillover of conflict,” Mao said, urging all parties to pursue “a resolution through dialogue and negotiation.”

Her remarks come amid continued exchanges of strikes involving Israel, the United States and Iran, heightening fears of a broader regional confrontation.

Mao confirmed that one Chinese citizen was killed in Tehran during the hostilities. She did not provide further details but said China is closely monitoring the situation and taking steps to protect its nationals in affected areas.

The recent escalation has drawn international concern, with several countries calling for restraint and warning against actions that could widen the conflict.

China reiterated its longstanding position that disputes in the Middle East should be resolved through political and diplomatic means, emphasizing the need for stability in a region critical to global security and economic interests.
