A humanitarian organization has raised concerns that Israel is extending the military tactics used in the war in Gaza Strip to operations in Lebanon as fighting between Israeli forces and the Lebanese armed group, Hezbollah intensifies.
The UK based charity Medical Aid for Palestinians said Israeli bombardments and evacuation orders issued across southern Lebanon and parts of Beirut have created widespread fear among civilians.
In a statement released on Friday, the organization accused Israeli forces of employing tactics that include forced displacement and attacks that have affected civilian communities.
The Chief Executive Officer of the charity, Steve Cutts, said the situation in Lebanon reflects an extension of the military strategy previously used in Gaza.
According to reports, the Israeli military issued evacuation orders earlier in the week for residents across southern Lebanon, prompting tens of thousands of civilians to flee their homes amid the ongoing bombardment.
A similar evacuation directive was later announced for the southern suburbs of Beirut as Israel expanded its air and ground offensive in the country.
The latest escalation followed renewed hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah after the Lebanese group fired rockets toward Israeli territory earlier this week.
Figures released by the Lebanese Ministry of Health indicate that at least 217 people have been killed while about 798 others have been injured in Israeli attacks across Lebanon since Monday.
Human rights organisations have also expressed concern over the evacuation orders, warning that many displaced families have limited access to shelter as facilities across Lebanon are already filled.
Local reports indicate that some displaced persons have been forced to sleep in public areas including the Beirut seafront and schools that have been converted into temporary reception centres.
The Israeli government has not issued a detailed response to the allegations by humanitarian groups regarding the conduct of its operations in Lebanon.
