A former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), has called for urgent action over the recent conduct of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, describing it as a direct threat to national security and institutional integrity.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, Buratai condemned Wike’s alleged verbal assault on a uniformed officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces, noting that the incident, which occurred on November 11, 2025, goes beyond political misconduct and borders on national indiscipline.

According to Buratai, the minister’s action “undermines the chain of command, disrespects the authority of the Commander-in-Chief, and wounds the morale of all men and women serving under the Nigerian flag.”

He emphasized that such behaviour cannot be dismissed as “political theatre” but should be seen as “a reckless endangerment of national order and a deliberate attempt to erode the foundation of discipline within the security establishment.”

Buratai urged the Minister to tender an immediate and public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the officer involved in the incident, stressing that “our nation’s security must come first.”

“The integrity of our Armed Forces demands nothing less,” Buratai stated, calling on the federal government to take decisive steps to preserve the dignity and authority of Nigeria’s military institutions.
