BUA CHAIRMAN PLEDGES $1.5M BONUS TO SUPER EAGLES AFTER AFCON QUARTER-FINAL WIN

Chairman and founder of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has pledged substantial financial rewards to Nigeria’s Super Eagles, following their 2-0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a statement posted on Saturday via his personal X (formerly Twitter) handle, Rabiu congratulated the team on their performance, announced a series of performance-based incentives ahead of the remaining matches in the tournament.

“Congratulations to our Super Eagles players on a brilliant victory against Algeria! You have lifted the spirit of the nation, and we proudly cheer you on, as you prepare for the semi-finals,” Rabiu wrote.

He pledged a bonus of $500,000 to the players if they win the semi-final, with an additional $50,000 for every goal scored in that match.

Rabiu further promised a larger reward should the team go on to clinch the title.

“Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge $1,000,000, plus $100,000 for each goal scored in the final,” he added.

He concluded his message by urging the players to continue inspiring the nation, saying, “Wishing you continued success as you carry Nigeria forward. Keep making Nigeria proud. Proudly Nigerian.”

Nigeria booked their place in the semi-final after a convincing 2-0 victory over Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech on Saturday, with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.

The Super Eagles will now face host nation Morocco in the semi-final on Wednesday, January 14, at 9pm at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

The win extended Nigeria’s perfect run at the tournament to five victories from five matches, with the team scoring 14 goals. The Super Eagles also became the first team in Africa Cup of Nations history to win their opening five matches in a single edition of the competition.

Nigeria, champions in 1980, 1994, and 2013, are aiming to secure a fourth AFCON title. With their impressive form and strong squad depth; expectations remain high among fans that the team can go all the way in the tournament.
