The Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) has announced that the Governors of Cross River, Zamfara, and Kaduna states – Bassey Otu, Dauda Lawal, and Uba Sani – will be honoured at the 2026 Nigeria Broadcasting Awards scheduled for April 8 in Abuja.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued by BON’s Executive Secretary, Yemisi Bamgbose, on Friday. The organization said the governors would be recognised for their support for the media industry and contributions to the growth of broadcasting in Nigeria.

BON described the honourees as “partners in progress whose commitment to media development continues to inspire institutional growth and professional excellence.”

The award ceremony, billed to hold at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, is expected to attract key stakeholders in the broadcast sector, with activities scheduled between 6pm and 9pm.

According to the organization, the recognition is aimed at encouraging stronger collaboration between government and media institutions.

“Leaders who create enabling environments for media to thrive deserve to be celebrated as champions of democratic engagement and information dissemination,” the statement noted.

BON further explained that the awards, endorsed at its 74th General Assembly in 2021, are designed to promote excellence and best practices in the broadcast industry.

The 2026 edition reportedly attracted 204 entries covering broadcast performances from 2024, with assessments conducted by a panel led by former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Danladi Bako. The organization described the process as thorough and transparent.

In addition to the special recognition awards, the event will feature 24 competitive categories, including radio and television stations of the year, best reporter, best newscaster, and best producer.

BON reaffirmed its commitment to promoting professionalism and innovation while recognizing individuals and institutions contributing to the advancement of broadcasting in Nigeria.
