Ebun Okubanjo, the embattled CEO of Bento Africa, has officially stepped down following growing allegations of tax and pension fraud.
In a recent email to investors, Okubanjo acknowledged that the company had faced challenges since 2024. He noted that he had resigned weeks before the scandal gained public attention, triggered by accusations from HackSultan and other companies, claiming that Bento Africa had withheld personal income taxes and pensions without remittance.

Seeking to fully distance himself from the company, Okubanjo stated that he is relinquishing all equity and debt in Bento Africa. Furthermore, he suggested that new leadership may take over, potentially rebranding the company entirely.
While he described the product as “rad,” he admitted that it requires a fresh identity.

Okubanjo’s exit could pave the way for a Bento Africa reboot. However, it also raises lingering questions for investors, employees, and the public alike about accountability and the company’s future direction.
