The Bayelsa State Government has fixed January 30, 2026, for the burial of the late Deputy Governor of the state, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
Governor Douye Diri announced the burial date on Wednesday during the 179th meeting of the State Executive Council held at the Government House in Yenagoa.
Mr. Ewhrudjakpo passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 60.
Governor Diri said the state government approved a four-day funeral programme following consultations by the burial committee chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei.
According to the Governor, activities will commence on January 27 with sporting events, followed by a Day of Tributes on January 28.
He added that valedictory sessions would take place on January 29 at the Bayelsa State High Court and later at the Executive Council Chambers.
Governor Diri said a requiem mass would be held on January 30 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Ofoni, after which the remains of the late deputy Governor would be laid to rest.
The Governor noted that the state government, the Ewhrudjakpo family and the Catholic Church are in full agreement on the burial arrangements.
He described the late deputy Governor as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to the development of Bayelsa State would be remembered.
