Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, is dead – after collapsing in his office at the Government House, Yenagoa, on Thursday afternoon.
The deputy governor suddenly slumped and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa) for urgent medical care.
Family sources have now confirmed that Ewhrudjakpo was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital despite frantic efforts by medical personnel to resuscitate him.
The incident occurred at about 1:30pm, forcing an emergency response from security aides and staff at the Government House.
Eyewitnesses said the deputy governor appeared to be in a critical state when he was brought into the hospital’s emergency unit.

A source close to the family suggested that the collapse may have been connected to the deputy governor’s “demanding workload,” which had reportedly taken a toll on his health in recent weeks.
Although an official medical report is yet to be released, multiple sources indicated that the episode may have been linked to a cardiac-related complication.
A formal autopsy is expected to be conducted to determine the exact cause of his death.
Security operatives have since cordoned off sections of the FMC as top government officials, political associates, and family members throng the facility in shock and disbelief.
Efforts to reach the deputy governor’s media aide, Mr. Doubara Atasi, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were unanswered.

As of the time of filing this report, the Bayelsa State Government is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
