Bauchi State Government has formalized the employment of Mrs Sara Halilu, widow of the late Channels Television cameraman, Ben Kani.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Saleh Umar, Information Officer of the State Civil Service Commission. Halilu’s appointment has been regularized as Registrar II, Cooperative Society, following an adjustment from her initial placement as Cooperative Officer II to align with the appropriate scheme of service.

The commission noted that the decision fulfils a promise by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed to support the family of the deceased.

Kani tragically died while on official duty covering the commissioning of North East Development Commission projects in Alkaleri Local Government Area, in a motor accident that claimed the lives of two journalists and injured others.

“On compassionate grounds, the government remains committed to recognizing the service of the late Kani by providing support to his family,” the statement read.

In addition, the State Civil Service Commission approved a series of promotions and appointments during its 10th plenary session on March 24, 2026. Ten Deputy Directors on Grade Level 15 were elevated to substantive Directors on Grade Level 16 across departments including Commercial, Sports, Monitoring and Compliance, Engineering and Technical Services, News and Current Affairs, and Administration and Human Resources.

Three Deputy Directors in Donor and Technical Coordination, Planning, and Water Supply were promoted to Director level, while nine Chief Officers on Grade Level 14 advanced to Deputy Directors on Grade Level 15 in fields such as Architecture, Quantity Survey, Public Building, and Statistics.

Four Confidential Secretaries on Grade Level 13 were elevated to Chief Confidential Secretaries on Grade Level 14, with other beneficiaries including Chief Architects, Chief Works Superintendents, Assistant Chief Fire Officers, and Assistant Chief Fire Superintendents.

The commission also approved the re-engagement of Abubakar D. Ibrahim and Mohd Y. Ahmad as Assistant Chief Clerical Officer and Assistant Chief Data Processing Assistant, respectively, on Grade Level 6, on two-year contracts effective from March 1, 2026.
