Australia’s fuel supply remains stable despite disruptions caused by the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran, with no plans to introduce fuel rationing, Energy Minister Chris Bowen said on Sunday.
Australia, which imports about 90 percent of its fuel, has experienced some localized shortages as the conflict affects global supply chains. However, Bowen said the country currently holds about 38 days of petrol and 30 days of diesel and jet fuel, indicating that overall supply remains strong.
The minister noted that while six fuel shipments from Asia had been cancelled, Australia continues to receive deliveries, supported by two operational domestic refineries running at full capacity.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urged citizens not to engage in panic buying; emphasizing responsible behavior amid uncertainty. He also announced additional government measures to safeguard fuel supply, including the appointment of a national task force led by former energy regulator head Anthea Harris to address shortages and strengthen the supply chain.
