Troops of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating from Forward Operating Base Ikang, have rescued eight civilians abducted along the Ikang–Cameroon waterways.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Yemi Sokoya, the operation was launched after troops received credible intelligence from community members that militants had intercepted a commercial boat, kidnapped six adults and two minors.

“Acting swiftly, the troops pursued the perpetrators, blocked possible escape routes, secured the waterways. The militants, overwhelmed by the rapid response, abandoned the victims at Ini-Abasi Fishing Port, fled into nearby creeks and the high seas,” the statement said.

The civilians were recovered unharmed, properly documented and subsequently released, with no casualties recorded during the operation.
