ARMY DEPLOYS SPECIAL FORCES TO PLATEAU AS BANDITRY RESURGES

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the immediate deployment of special forces troops to Plateau State to curb the recent resurgence of banditry and related security threats.

The deployment involves the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion, a special forces unit, which has already arrived in the state to reinforce ongoing security operations under Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE.

Speaking while receiving the troops at the Headquarters of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander, Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, described the deployment as a major boost to efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state.

Major General Oyinlola, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Brigadier General Senlong Sule, charged the troops to be decisive in carrying out offensive operations against bandits and other criminal elements operating within Plateau State.

He commended the Chief of Army Staff for his proactive leadership and for providing the necessary combat enablers and logistics support to ensure the effective execution of the troops’ mandate.

The army commander appealed to residents of Plateau State to remain calm despite the increased movement of troops and deployment of military hardware, stressing that the measures are purely for the protection of lives and property.

He also expressed appreciation to the people of the state for their continued cooperation with security agencies and called for sustained support through the provision of timely and actionable intelligence on the activities and locations of criminal elements.
