The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned the remodelled and renovated Vulcan Officers’ Mess at the Kontagora Military Cantonment in Niger State, as part of efforts to enhance officers’ welfare and strengthen operational effectiveness.
The COAS, who was represented at the ceremony on March 25, 2026, by the Commander, Corps of Artillery, Major General John Adeyemo, said the upgraded facility would promote professionalism, regimentation, and foster stronger civil-military relations in Kontagora and its environs.
He urged officers, heads of sister security agencies, honorary members to maximize the use of the Mess for social interaction, collaboration, and idea-sharing, noting that such engagements are vital to the success of military operations.
Major General Adeyemo commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, who was the COAS at the time of approval, for supporting the renovation project. He noted that the improved facility would significantly boost morale and enhance social cohesion among personnel.
The immediate past Commander, Corps of Artillery, Major General Zakari Abubakar (Rtd), who initiated and executed the project, said the renovation was aimed at improving officers’ social life, encouraging inter-agency interaction, and strengthening ties with the civil population.
The commissioning ceremony attracted top military officers, including the Commander, Nigerian Army Training Centre, Major General Abubakar Haruna, as well as representatives of other security agencies, government officials, and community stakeholders.
