Commander of 14 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Abia State, Brigadier General Ahmad Mansur Dikko, has urged journalists to promptly report any act of misconduct involving personnel of the brigade to his office.

Dikko, who also serves as Commander, Sector 3 Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDOKA, made the call on Tuesday during an interaction with journalists at the 14 Brigade Headquarters in Ohafia.

He specifically asked media practitioners to report cases of soldiers escorting celebrities or engaging in unauthorized private duties.

“Any cases of misconduct involving personnel should be promptly reported or directed to the Officer Commanding 14 Brigade Military Police for necessary disciplinary action,” he said.

The Brigade Commander reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to professionalism and transparency, in line with the media relations philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a strong and mutually beneficial relationship with the media.

Dikko noted that the media plays a pivotal role in nation-building, stressing that while it has the capacity to build public trust and confidence, it could also undermine it if not professionally managed.

“I commend members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for their support in projecting the activities and achievements of the Nigerian Army in Abia State. The Army relies significantly on credible media platforms to inform the public of its commitments, operations and successes,” he added.

He reiterated the brigade’s mandate to maintain security and stability within its area of responsibility and pledged continued civil-military cooperation. He also encouraged members of the public to make appropriate use of facilities within the barracks, including the medical centre, schools and market.

Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ in Abia State, Chidi Asonye, said the visit was to formally welcome and interact with the new Brigade Commander and to reaffirm the union’s commitment to sustaining cordial relations with the military.

Represented by Felix Obani, Asonye emphasized the media’s role as a bridge between institutions and the public, calling for responsible journalism and balanced reportage. He also solicited continued cooperation to enable the union effectively discharge its professional responsibilities.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the NUJ Chairman by the Brigade Commander as a symbol of mutual respect and partnership.

Also speaking, the Brigade’s Assistant Director of Public Relations, Captain Mazinho Attah, described the visit as a reflection of the enduring partnership between the 14 Brigade and the media community in Abia State.
