The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed troops to intensify operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements, stressing the need for relentless, proactive and intelligence-driven engagements across the country.
Shaibu gave the directive on Friday while addressing troops of the Headquarters Nigerian Army Armour Corps and the 33 Artillery Brigade at Shadawanka Barracks in Bauchi.
He urged personnel to maintain high operational readiness and sustain pressure on criminal groups, noting that their activities have continued to displace innocent citizens. He reaffirmed the Army’s determination to restore peace and stability in affected communities.
The Army Chief emphasised that operational effectiveness must be matched with professionalism, tactical efficiency and discipline, adding that sustained pressure would deny criminal elements freedom of action and boost public confidence.
He also assured troops of continued provision of operational support, logistics and other enablers required to effectively carry out their duties.
On welfare, Shaibu reiterated his commitment to improving the wellbeing of soldiers and their families, noting that a motivated force is critical to achieving success in ongoing operations. He said efforts would continue to enhance morale, efficiency and overall combat effectiveness.
Earlier, the COAS paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Suleiman Rilwanu, where he commended the traditional ruler for his support to security agencies and called for sustained collaboration between the military and host communities in tackling insecurity.
The Army leadership reaffirmed its resolve to eliminate banditry and other forms of criminality across the country.
