In a shocking development early Thursday morning, armed attackers stormed St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Niger State, abducting several pupils, students, teachers, and a security personnel who sustained gunshot injuries. The attack reportedly took place between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., leaving the school community in fear and distress.
The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora strongly condemned the attack, expressing deep concern for the safety of the kidnapped children and staff. Security agencies were immediately alerted and have launched coordinated efforts to rescue the victims.
In a statement, the Diocese assured the public that it is actively collaborating with security operatives, community leaders, and government authorities to ensure the safe return of those abducted. The public was urged to remain calm, support security efforts, and continue praying for the quick release of the victims.
Fr. Jatau Luka Joseph, Diocesan Secretary, called on all to remain vigilant and reaffirmed the Diocese’s commitment to the protection of children, promising to provide further updates as verified information becomes available.
The Diocese concluded with a prayer, asking the Lord to grant the swift release of the abducted and continue to safeguard the community from danger.
