The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has refuted allegations by the state government that it is behind a planned protest targeting the administration of Governor Alex Otti, describing the claim as misleading, politically motivated.
The state government had alleged that the opposition party was preparing to stage a demonstration in Abia – under the slogan; “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.” The claim was made in a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.
Responding to the allegation, the APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, rejected the accusation, urged the Otti-led government to focus on its responsibility of maintaining law and order in the state.
Aguoru questioned the motive behind the government’s claim, describing it as potentially misleading. According to him, the allegation could be part of an attempt to divert public attention from growing concerns about governance and the management of state resources.
He said residents have recently been raising questions about transparency and accountability in the administration’s handling of public funds. Aguoru alleged that more than one trillion naira had accrued to the state in recent times without visible improvements in infrastructure or the welfare of citizens.
The APC spokesman also insisted that the party had no knowledge of any planned protest, stressing that the party has never been associated with organizing demonstrations capable of disrupting public peace.

He maintained that the APC prides itself on lawful political engagement and constructive opposition rather than actions that could threaten public order.
Aguoru further argued that the alarm raised by the state government could itself be a strategy aimed at creating a narrative that shifts blame to the opposition and distracts from scrutiny over governance issues.
The party called on security agencies to remain professional and unbiased in carrying out their duties, urging them to respond appropriately to any genuine threat to public order while avoiding the misuse of state institutions for political purposes.
