Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly its efforts to tackle insecurity and drive economic reforms across the country.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), held on Sunday at Eko Signature, Lagos State.

The communiqué signed by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma said their deliberations focused on national development, the responsibilities of state leadership, and the need to translate ongoing reforms into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

The Forum also disclosed that its members met with President Tinubu at his Lagos residence, where discussions centred on security, economic renewal, infrastructure, food systems, and social welfare.

The governors commended the President’s commitment to addressing insecurity, including his recent engagements with international partners during his visit to the United Kingdom.

They welcomed his assurance to sustain global collaboration aimed at strengthening security and advancing development priorities.

On the economy, the PGF acknowledged that ongoing reforms may pose short-term challenges but stressed that their success must ultimately reflect in improved living conditions for citizens.

The Forum warned that the current crisis in the Gulf region could worsen inflationary pressures, particularly through rising energy costs and disruptions in global supply chains.

To mitigate the impact, the governors resolved to strengthen collaboration in food production, support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), youth empowerment, and targeted social interventions.

They also pledged to expand palliative measures to cushion the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable Nigerians.

On security, the governors described it as the foundation for development and called for sustained investment in intelligence, technology, border security, and community-based early warning systems.

They emphasized that lasting peace must also be supported by job creation, youth engagement, and strengthened public trust in institutions.

The Forum further reaffirmed its commitment to cooperative federalism, stressing the importance of stronger collaboration between federal and state governments in key sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, energy, and transportation.

On party matters, the governors pledged loyalty to the APC and commended the peaceful conduct of recent ward, local government, and state congresses, describing them as a sign of growing internal democracy and institutional maturity.

They urged party leaders and stakeholders to remain committed to unity, discipline, and service delivery, noting that electoral success must translate into good governance and measurable results.

The communiqué concluded with a call on Nigerians to remain supportive of democratic processes and ongoing reforms, expressing optimism that the country’s future depends on collective resolve, disciplined action, and shared purpose.
