APC CHAIRMAN TO DELIVER AKSU CONVOCATION LECTURE

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will deliver the 6th, 7th and 8th combined convocation lecture of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU).

According to a release signed by the Chairman of the Convocation Planning Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Iniobong Umotong, the lecture is entitled: “ Leveraging Emerging Technology to Enhance University Education and National Development.

The event is scheduled to hold at the 500-capacity Senate Building, Main Campus of the University, Ikot Akpaden, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 3:00p.m.

Professor Yilwatda, a former APC governorship candidate in Plateau State, is a technocrat and politician with a background in engineering, governance reform and party administration.

Born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, he studied Electrical/Electronic Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, graduating in 1992. He later served as Director of ICT at the same institution for 12 years, reflecting his strong technical and administrative experience.

Between July 2017 and December 2021, he was appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Benue State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In 2023, Yilwatda coordinated the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign in Plateau State, contested the governorship election on the APC platform.

He was appointed Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development by President Bola Tinubu in October 2024. He later emerged as the substantive National Chairman of the APC following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje, becoming the first person from Plateau State to occupy the position.
