All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has disqualified former APC National Secretary and ex–Osun State Deputy Governor, Sen. Iyiola Omisore, alongside six other aspirants, from participating in the party’s governorship primary scheduled for December 13, 2025.

The committee cited gaps and irregularities in their nomination processes, particularly the failure to meet the mandatory sponsorship requirements stipulated in the APC Constitution and the party’s 2025 governorship primary guidelines.

The development comes ahead of the Osun governorship election fixed by INEC for August 8, 2026.

The screening report submitted on Friday to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, was signed by the committee chairman, Chief Obinna Uzoh, Esq.

It confirmed that only Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji met all constitutional and guideline requirements and are therefore cleared to contest.

According to the committee, the seven disqualified aspirants:
•Sen. Iyiola Omisore
•Babatunde Haketer Oralusi
•Oyedotun Babayemi
•Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi
•Benedict Alabi
•Adegoke Rasheed Okiki
•Sen. Babajide Omoworare failed to provide evidence of sponsorship from at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date APC members in each of Osun State’s Local Government Areas, as required by:
•Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution
•Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s 2025 Governorship Primary Guidelines

The committee stressed that the rule is mandatory and applies uniformly to all aspirants.

The committee revealed that it had received a petition from the Osun APC Renewal Group, which demanded the disqualification of the two cleared aspirants for allegedly failing to meet nomination requirements.

After reviewing the petition, the committee said the claims were “weighty, substantial, and relevant,” but insisted that its evaluation already ensured uniform application of the party’s rules.

It upheld the clearance of Jimoh and Oyebamiji, concluding they fully complied with all nomination standards.

The screening panel raised concerns about persistent factional divides within the Osun APC and recommended immediate reconciliation efforts by the national leadership.

ADVERTISMENT

“A harmonised party is essential for a credible primary and success at the gubernatorial election,” the report warned.

The committee urged equitable distribution of political appointments, party offices, and campaign roles across zones, blocs, and interest groups to strengthen unity.
