AMAECHI URGES NIGERIANS TO HOLD LEADERS ACCOUNTABLE IN 2026

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged Nigerians to hold those in authority accountable, stressing that responsible and people-oriented leadership is critical to addressing the country’s economic, security challenges.

Amaechi made the call in his New Year message released on Wednesday by his media aide, David Iyofor.

Reflecting on the outgoing year, the former Rivers State Governor said 2025 tested Nigeria’s resilience, with many families struggling under economic hardship, rising living costs, widespread insecurity.

He called on Nigerians to use the New Year as a turning point in the collective pursuit of peace, unity, improved security, economic stability, and overall national well-being.

According to Amaechi, citizens must collectively demand leadership that is responsible, responsive, transparent, people-oriented, and accountable.

“As we welcome the New Year, let us all commit to making a turning point in our national aspiration for peace, unity, improved security of lives and property, economic stability, prosperity, and the overall well-being of our people, by holding the government accountable,” he said.

Amaechi also called for economic reforms aimed at job creation, poverty reduction, affordable healthcare, housing and food, as well as access to quality education.

“We must call for, demand economic reforms that would result in job creation, poverty reduction, affordable healthcare, affordable housing, affordable food, and quality education for all,” he said.

He further stressed the need for political, electoral reforms that would guarantee free, fair, and transparent elections; insisting that justice, fairness, and the rule of law must be respected.

Amaechi said he would continue to stand with Nigerians by speaking truth to power, challenging policies that deepen hardship, offering constructive ideas capable of restoring dignity, economic prosperity, and improved security.

He added that Nigeria’s greatness does not lie in the hands of a few elites, but in the determination, resilience of millions of ordinary citizens.

The former minister expressed optimism that 2026 would bring healing to the nation, courage to the people, a brighter future for coming generations.
