The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has dismissed speculation that he may resign from office to contest the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

Reacting to the rumour on Wednesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Alausa tagged the originator of the claim and wrote, “We’re still hard at work here at the FME, don’t believe the rumours.”

The Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, also refuted the report. Quoting the original speculation post, he shared a video showing the minister in attendance at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, with the caption: “Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa currently at the Federal Executive Council Meeting.”

The clarification followed a post by an APC supporter on X, Imran Muhammad, who had claimed that Alausa “may resign in order to pursue his Lagos State governorship ambition.” The post suggested that it was customary for public office holders to step down before commencing campaigns for another office.

The claim quickly generated online discussions, particularly amid growing political permutations ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship race.

Several prominent figures have been speculated as potential aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in Lagos, including Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat; Hakeem Muri-Okunola; the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Seyi Tinubu; former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode; and Dr. Alausa.

Alausa was appointed Minister of Education on October 23, 2024, following a cabinet reshuffle by President Bola Tinubu. He had previously served as Minister of State for Health before his redeployment to head the education ministry.
