Akwa Ibom State is set to host the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, as part of activities marking the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2026.

The event will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, and is expected to bring together women leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, development partners, and grassroots stakeholders from across the state and beyond.

According to a press release issued on Thursday by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the celebration will focus on the theme “ Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls .”

Umanah stated that the event will serve as a platform to celebrate the achievements and contributions of women while also highlighting efforts aimed at promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.

As part of the First Lady’s visit, she will also commission the ARISE Senior Citizens’ Centre, an initiative of the Wife of the Governor, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno.

The facility, located at the Medical Corridor along the Uyo–Ikot Ekpene Road, was inspired by the vision and compassion of the First Lady and is designed to cater to the welfare and wellbeing of elderly citizens in the state.

According to the statement, the purpose-built centre is the first in a planned series to be established across the three senatorial districts of Akwa Ibom State. The facility includes a Primary Health Care clinic, laboratory, pharmacy, supermarket, lounge, library, orchard, games room, gymnasium, chapel and counselling unit, as well as kitchen and dining facilities, all aimed at providing care, comfort, and social engagement for senior citizens.

Governor Umo Bassey Eno described the First Lady’s visit as a significant honour for the state and a reflection of Akwa Ibom’s growing national recognition in gender-responsive governance and social development.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building an inclusive society where women are empowered to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.

The Governor also urged residents of the state, particularly women, to turn out in large numbers to give the First Lady and her delegation a warm reception during the visit.
