Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has assured residents that the state will remain peaceful, united and stable, despite what he described as attempts by some individuals to disrupt the prevailing atmosphere of peace.
The Governor gave the assurance during a worship service at Our Saviour’s Methodist Cathedral, Ekit Itam II, Mfonabasi Circuit, in Itu Local Government Area.
Governor Eno said Akwa Ibom remains a land of peace and unity, stressing that efforts by any group to foment trouble under political guise would not succeed.
According to him, “Akwa Ibom is united. Akwa Ibom is peaceful, and those hiding under political banners to cause division are wasting their time. God will not allow their plans to succeed.”
The Governor explained that his decision to worship at the church was divinely inspired and expressed joy at being reunited with Rev. Dr. Nse Akpan, the Presbyter of the church and former chaplain to the late Prelate Sunday Mbang.
He recalled how the late Prelate Mbang had mobilised prayers for his successful election and noted that worshipping at the cathedral held deep personal significance for him.
Earlier in his sermon, the Bishop of Itu Diocese of the Methodist Church, Rt. Rev. Friday Jepther, urged Christians to remain faithful and upright, assuring that God never forsakes His people.
He praised the Governor’s leadership, describing him as divinely prepared for the task of leading Akwa Ibom State, prayed for the continued success of his administration, declaring that conspiracies against him would not prosper.
Goodwill messages were delivered by the Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kufre Edidem, the State APC Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and other political leaders, who highlighted development projects executed by the Governor in the area, pledged continued support for his administration.
Governor Eno later pledged support for the completion of the church project, leading other government officials and dignitaries to also make donations.
