In a swift, coordinated operation, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully rescued a three-year-old girl from an attempted abduction, arrested a suspect in Abak Local Government Area on Wednesday, 22nd January 2026.
According to the Police, the operation followed a distress call from Uwem, 32, reporting that a female pupil had been forcefully taken and dragged into a nearby bush.
Acting promptly, Police operatives mobilized to the scene and, in collaboration with vigilant community youths, combed the surrounding area.
The operation led to the arrest of Saturday Ofonmbuk, 29, of Afaha Ikot Inyang Village, Ukanafun while the child was rescued safe and unharmed.
She has since been reunited with her family, bringing relief to the community.
A preliminary investigation is ongoing to determine the suspect’s motive, possible accomplices, and any links to similar offences.
The Police have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward at the nearest Police Station or the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Uyo, assuring them of protection against intimidation.
DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, warned that Akwa Ibom State is not a haven for criminal activity.
“Child abductors and other criminal elements will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” she stated, while commending the cooperation of community members, whose vigilance contributed significantly to the successful outcome.
